I never planned to write books. For most of my life, I was too busy working the land, raising a family, or trying to get through another day in uncertain times. But after a while, certain memories refused to stay buried. I'd sit with a mug of coffee, and something small—a sound, a smell—would take me back. To a place. To the bush. To a patrol. To dangerous times.

At first, I wrote just to get things off my chest or out of my head. For myself. Bits of memory, some good, some bad and some sad, moments that had stayed with me. Then I realised there was value in preserving it—not because my story was more important than anyone else's, but because it's part of a bigger story that's fast being forgotten or rewritten.

Some folks have written to say the stories brought back memories of their own. Others say it gave them a clearer picture of a time and place they'd only heard whispers about. That's more than I ever hoped for.

I don't claim to have all the answers. I just wrote what I saw, what I felt, and what I couldn't forget.
